Our Mission

Our Mission is to assist our clients to achieve “Excellence through financial discipline” by guiding them to follow the best practices of financial management, assisting them to identify weaknesses in their control systems and recommending corrective action with a view of adding value.

Background

With the escalation of the war, most of the professionals, particularly the qualified accountants started migrating to different countries where they could make a decent living and educate their children. Starting from the year 1983, the “brain drain” rose to unprecedented levels where the country lost almost all their intellectual capital. The situation worsened with the liberalization of the country’s economic policies where the entire economy was left in the hands of the private sector and the demand for finance professionals almost doubled. The politicians, who ran the country under the successive governments, did not have the vision to adopt policies to attract those professionals back to the country to take charge of the economy. Under the circumstances, Sri Lanka had to live with those recently qualified junior members of the accountancy profession, in addition to a handful of senior professionals who opted to be in the country.

Simultaneously, there were advancements in management technologies, more efficient computerized management information systems and development of standards by leading professional bodies in and around Sri Lanka, which compensated at least partially to minimize the adverse affects of this problem. Those business houses who secured the services of efficient senior professionals recorded success stories, while most of the others had sad endings. Few professionals emerged with new ideas of adopting business houses to survive the competition such as business process re-engineering, restructuring of balance sheets, balance score card etc. but all of them needed continuous monitoring to achieve the desired results. All such developments created a heavy demand for professionals with experience at the top level in industry & professional practice, with exposure to international environments.

Staff Profile

The Founder and Managing Partner of the firm, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCASL) who has experience in senior management positions in Audit as well as Non-audit sectors in and out of Sri Lanka. He received his basic education at Royal College Colombo and started his accountancy career with Ford Rhodes Thornton Company (Now known as KPMG) A summary of his experience is given below:

Mr. Michael Anthonisz, an old boy of St. Thomas's College, Mount Lavinia, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Associate member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Australia, Associate Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and a Certified Internal Auditor, who has over 35 years of post qualification experience, 23 out of which is with John Keels Holdings PLC.(JKH). Mike had served on the Boards of several JKH subsidiaries and also as the Vice President of the Group Internal Audit Division of JKH Group responsible for the Internal Audit function of the entire group Companies. He has also served as a member of the SLASQC-1 program designed by CA Sri Lanka to improve the quality of practicing firms in Sri Lanka.

Mrs. Thanuja Ranasinghe, an old girl of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda is an Associate member of CA Sri Lanka as well as of the Institute of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka. Thanuja completed her practical training in Ernst & Young (Chartered Accountants) and has over 10 years experience, 8 out of which are in Audit practice. She has been actively involved in technical and quality control aspects of reporting standards and assurance services.

Miss. Anuradha M. Costa is a finalist of CA Sri Lanka who has completed her practical training requirements with M/s. Sarma & Company (Chartered Accountants) and has worked with a leading travel company as the Finance Officer for 1 year. Anuradha has completed 9 years with us as an active member of the audit team who has contributed to the success of several internal audit and forensic assignments. She is also serving as a Director of our Associate Management Consultancy Company KALRUPCO Management Services (Pvt) Ltd.

Mrs. Nadeesha Wickramasinghe is a partly qualified CA student with over 7 years experience in accounting in organizations with a wide variety of activities ranging from software development and implementation, Shipping, Trading and Resort Management, Travel and Travel and Tourism Industries before joining KALRUPCO family.

Kanesh is a finalist of CA Sri Lanka who has completed his practical training requirements with a reputed firm of Chartered Accountants and joined our firm in 2016.

Sanjay is a finalist of CA Sri Lanka who has completed his practical training requirements with M/s. Ernest & Young (Chartered Accountants) before joining KALRUPCO.

Dilisha is a holder of a B.Sc (special) (Hon) degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and has worked as the Head of Company Secretarial Division of a leading Secretarial Company affiliated to a firm of Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka for over 15 years.

Specialized Consultants of the Firm

Nusith is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and an Associate of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. He is also a Holder of a Special degree in Estate Management and Valuation from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Nusith completed his training under PricewaterhouseCoopers (Chartered Accountants) before starting his own audit firm by the name of Nusith Kumaratunga & Company.
Nusith has specialized in Business Process Restructuring, Productivity improvement, Special investigations and preparation fo Project Proposals. He is associated with us in the Capacity of Senior Consultant.

Praneeth Holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree, Member of British Computer Society (BCS) and has 28+ years experience in Business Information Systems and Business Operations experience in various business verticals such as Retail, Manufacturing, Trading, Real Estate, etc. Skilled in all phases of Project Management Lifecycle (PMLC); Establishing project scope, charter, timelines, and costs; Managing communication of project status, milestones, timelines, Risks / Mitigation's and budget to project stakeholders
Trained in SAP ERP, ORACLE EBS, MS Dinamics NAV and JD Edwards Modules; Sound knowledge of Manufacturing, Retail, Human Capital Management and Supply Chain Business Processes.

Heshika is an Attorney at Law and holds a LLB Degree from the University of London and is working in a leading law firm in Colombo.

In addition to the above professionals, we have several well known names in legal and tax consultancy fields on our panel of consultants, whose services are available to us “as and when necessary” basis. Among those on our panel of consultants are a leading lawyer who is practising in Colombo, a senior banker who is heading an international off shore banking operation, a retired Senior commissioner of Inland revenue and a Management Consultant who is serving on the Board of Directors of several “blue chip” companies.

Why We are Different

We are different to most of the other Professional firms due to the following:

  1. We believe that professional firms should be small enough to give personal attention of the partners to their clients and big enough to maintain professional standards and ethics.
  2. We offer our services to those companies successfully managed by non accountants, who have found it difficult to manage their accounting, recording and management Information functions.
  3. We believe that internal audits could add more value to a company much more than and external audit.
  4. We do not believe that we could be of any assistance to those not willing to accept technology developments. We guide such clients to use some level of computerization in order to be competitive in the current environment.
  5. We concentrate heavily in internal audit assignments where we could assess the risks that a company is exposed to, and pre warn the management.
  6. We recommend software that is suitable and affordable to different types of businesses.
  7. We do not look for big clients. But we identify those who will be big tomorrow and assist them in the best possible way.
  8. We try and dissociate from those who do not use management information for managing their businesses.
  9. We only charge for our services and volume of transactions. We do not look at the value of client’s business dealings, when determining the fees.
